Record the dates when you send the contract
Start date, end date and notice period are fields on the document, not notes in your head. They are what the warnings are calculated from.

Get warned before the notice window closes
A renewal is flagged ahead of the deadline, defaulting to 30 days when the contract does not specify a notice period of its own.

Whichever you choose, it is a decision rather than something that happened to you while you were busy.
Two different clocks
A contract you have sent but nobody has signed needs chasing. A contract that was signed a year ago needs a renewal decision. These are different problems and they are handled separately.
- Unsigned — chased automatically on days 3, 4 and 7, then it stops
- Unsigned past its expiry date — marked expired, so it stops looking live
- Signed and approaching renewal — flagged before the notice period closes
Why the chase stops at three
Following up on days 3, 4 and 7 catches the contracts that were genuinely forgotten, which is most of them. Past that, a fourth and fifth reminder reads as automated pestering and is more likely to cost you the deal than close it.
If it is still unsigned after a week, the problem is not that they did not see the email.
Reminders are a paid feature

Frequently asked questions
How often are unsigned contracts chased?
Three times: on the third, fourth and seventh day after sending. Then the automatic chase stops, and any further follow-up is yours to send.
How far ahead do renewal warnings arrive?
Before the notice period closes, using the notice period recorded on the contract. Where none is recorded, 30 days is assumed.
Can I turn the automatic reminders off?
Yes. They are per-document, so you can send something without a chase attached when the situation calls for a quieter follow-up.
What happens to a contract that is never signed?
If you set an expiry date it is marked expired once that date passes, which keeps your pipeline honest. Without one it stays open, which is usually not what you want on a quote with a validity period.
